Car loan rejected despite having an income? Keven explains commitments, documents, repayment history and CCRIS for Perodua buyers in Sabah.

Quick answer

Salary alone does not determine car loan approval. Review documents, commitments, repayment history and the bank’s explanation. A rejection does not necessarily mean you are “blacklisted”; CCRIS is not a blacklist system.

Why can two people with the same salary get different results?

Your salary goes into the bank every month and you have a job, yet your car loan application is not approved. It can feel confusing, especially when a friend earning a similar salary has already bought a car.

Illustration: two people in Kota Kinabalu each earn RM3,000 a month. One has low commitments; the other has motorcycle instalments, a personal loan and other loans. Their remaining income can differ despite identical salaries. This does not mean a particular commitment automatically causes rejection.

1. Monthly commitments

Banks assess whether you can afford a new loan alongside existing commitments. Salary alone, without debt payments and expenses, does not show the full picture. This article promises no single qualifying ratio.

2. Repayment history

Arrears or late payments may affect credit assessment. Check your own information and seek clarification from the relevant institution if it contains errors.

3. Inconsistent income documents

If payslip amounts do not clearly correspond to credits in bank statements, explanations or further evidence may be needed. Documents must be accurate and must not be altered to make an application look better.

4. Employment duration and bank policy

New employment or variable income may require additional support. Each bank decides according to its own credit assessment and policies. Rejection by one bank does not automatically mean every bank will decide the same way. Seek an explanation first rather than submitting many applications without understanding the problem.

Does a rejected loan mean I am blacklisted?

Not necessarily. Bank Negara Malaysia explains that CCRIS is not a blacklist system. It collects credit information from financial institutions to support assessment; it does not decide loan approvals.

You can check your own CCRIS report through Bank Negara Malaysia’s eCCRIS. Never share your password, OTP or eCCRIS account access with anyone.

What should I do after rejection?

I prefer to understand the cause first: incomplete documents, unclear income, excessive commitments or something else the bank needs to clarify?

For document issues, identify what is missing. For affordability issues, reconsider the car price, deposit or commitments. For repayment issues, check the credit report and seek clarification from the institution concerned. None of these steps guarantees a change in the bank’s decision.
