Civil servants in Sabah: can you buy a Perodua with the government vehicle loan?
A summary of the older Accountant General FAQ on Federal Government vehicle financing; confirm current conditions with your department.
Quick answer
Eligible federal public service officers may apply, subject to their department's conditions and approval. An older Accountant General FAQ lists limits of RM55,000, RM65,000 or RM70,000 by service group and up to 108 months for a new car. Confirm current rules and your eligibility with your department.
Basic conditions
According to the Accountant General’s Department FAQ: the monthly instalment must not exceed one third of basic salary; total deductions must not exceed 60% of basic salary and fixed allowances; and for a car, basic salary must be at least RM1,620 (below that, special Treasury approval is needed). Officers on probation or contract must be guaranteed by two eligible officers.
How much can you borrow?
The loan cannot exceed the vehicle’s net price, which is the selling price including excise duty and sales tax. Road tax, insurance and other additional charges are not financed. The approved amount is rounded down to the nearest hundred ringgit.
Other important points
A loan can be taken once every five years, provided the existing loan has been settled. The scheme is for new financing only, so it cannot be used to settle a bank loan for a car you have already bought.
Documents and steps with Keven
The older FAQ lists an original stamped quotation, payslip, identity card, driving licence and list of duties. Confirm the current document list and any exceptions with your department. Ask Keven for an official quotation.
